#ICYMI: On Thursday night, right-wing protesters disrupted a #Riverside school board meeting in objection to transgender student athletes in school sports. In partnership with TruEvolution and Rainbow Youth Pride Alliance, the Center’s Out for Safe Schools program staff participated in a counter protest and press conference in support of the bullied students and policies that protect our #transyouth. #ICYMI: Raised by lesbian parents, gay 19-year-old #JacksonLewis has become the youngest elected official in #Utah, and provides a bright spot during an otherwise dark election cycle. He cited bigotry and bullying as the motivating force to make a run for office—and win! Lewis’s victory highlights the importance of queer voices at every level of governing bodies, especially school boards. A Trevor Project survey found that anti-LGBTQ+ school policies directly impact mental health and increase suicide attempts by students.
